Our Mission

Eye Spy was established by Angelica Krystel von Kumberg to shed light on the history of intelligence, espionage, and covert operations across the globe. It is specifically designed for an academic audience and for those interested in engaging with the subject of intelligence. Our mission is to broaden the discourse of intelligence history, showcasing voices and perspectives from a variety of scholars from diverse backgrounds. As we grow, we aim to feature a diverse panel of experts, including PhD candidates specializing in different regions and historical periods, to provide comprehensive and nuanced analysis on this growing field.

We seek to provide insightful interviews by engaging with leading historians, practitioners and academics who specialize in the history of intelligence. This platform’s key goals are to keep intelligence historians updated on current trends in the field, and reflect on the importance of linking historical events to contemporary issues.

Krystel is a PhD student in Russian History at Stanford University. Her research focuses on the Cold War, political violence, and intelligence. 

​

She graduated from Georgetown University’s Security Studies Program (M.A.) in May 2020 and earned her second Master's degree in Global, International and Comparative History in May 2023. She has worked as a research analyst in the counterterrorism field, as a columnist at the Georgetown Security Studies Review, and Editor-in-Chief of Georgetown's History Journal, The Footnote
